Registration,evaluation,Authorization and Restriction ofchemicals

REACH is a European Union regulation adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals while increasing the competitiveness of the chemical industry in the EU. In addition, it encourages alternative methods to identify harmful effects of substances in order to reduce the number of animal experiments.

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) accepts and evaluates the individual registrations, while EU Member States assess selected substances in order to clarify any initial concern for human health or the environment. The ECHA authorities and scientific committees assess whether the risks of substances can be controlled.
The authorities can ban hazardous substances if their risks are unmanageable. You may also choose to restrict use or subject it to a prior authorization.

You must register in the following cases:
• EU manufacturers or importers of substances as such or in a mixture
• EU producers or importers of articles meeting the criteria described in the Guidelines on requirements for substances in articles
• 'only representative', established in the EU, used by a manufacturer, formulator or producer of a product located outside the EU to fulfill the registration obligations of importers
